Frequently asked questions

Should I do Level 1 first?

Not necessarily. If you already drink wine with curiosity — you know roughly what you like and why — you can start straight at Level 2. Level 1 is the right start if wine still feels like a foreign language. Not sure? Take the free practice quiz, or just ask me.

How much study is involved?

Plan for around 10–15 hours of home study alongside the three course days. You'll get the official WSET textbook (posted to you as soon as you book) and a study plan from me.

What's in the exam?

A 50-question multiple-choice exam, taken on the final day. Pass mark is 55%. You'll be well drilled by then — we practise exam-style questions throughout the course.

What wines will we taste?

Over 40 wines across the three days, covering the world's key grape varieties and regions — from Chablis to Barossa, Rioja to Marlborough. Tasting is analytic, using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting.

Is Level 2 worth it if I'm not in the wine trade?

Most of my students aren't — they're enthusiasts who want to buy better, order confidently and understand what they're tasting. Level 2 is the sweet spot for serious enthusiasts.

What's included in the price?

All three course days, 40+ wines, the official textbook and study materials, the exam fee, and your certificate. No hidden extras. Lunch isn't included — each day runs roughly 9:45–17:00 with a lunch break around 12:15, and you've got options: a two-course lunch at the hotel (€29), places to eat nearby, or bring your own and eat in the classroom (overlooking Merl Park) or the garden.

What if I need to cancel or move to another date?

Just email me with your order number and I'll help. Cancellations and transfers — to another date or another person — are accepted up to 10 working days before the start, for a €25 admin fee plus the cost of any study materials already sent; the balance is refunded. Within 10 working days of the start, or once the course has begun, I can't offer a refund or transfer, as the WSET registration and materials costs are already incurred (WSET registration and exam fees are non-refundable). And if I ever have to reschedule or cancel a course myself — for example if it doesn't reach minimum numbers — I'll tell you at least 10 working days ahead and refund you in full if none of the alternatives work.
